Steps 4 and 5: Tax, a $1 test order, and going live
Choose how tax works, place a $1 test order (a hold that Payd releases), then go live. Pause any time.
Step 4: tax
Shopify can’t calculate tax for an outside checkout, so Payd uses your choice on every order: prices include tax (enter your VAT or GST rate), a flat rate added to every order, or no tax. In Whop’s tax settings, choose I’ll handle tax myself and tick the box in Payd. More in tax on Payd orders.
Step 4: the $1 test order
Pause any app that fulfills, prints or ships orders automatically, so it doesn’t pick up the test order.
Click Place a test order. Your real checkout opens with two of your products that ship.
Pay with a real card. Whop puts a $1 hold on it instead of charging the cart total.
Payd writes a test order into Shopify (marked as a test and tagged payd-test; no receipt email, no stock taken), cancels it, and releases the hold. The setup page updates by itself.
Nothing is captured, so there is no fee and nothing to refund. Your bank may show the pending $1 for a few days before it drops off. Details in the $1 test order.
Step 5: go live
Tick I agree to Payd’s Terms (read them) and click Go live. What to know, next to the button, sums up what Payd doesn’t take, how the money works on Whop, and Shopify’s terms.
Turn off the dynamic checkout buttons (Buy it now, Shop Pay): they go straight to Shopify checkout. Dawn: product template → Buy buttons → uncheck “Show dynamic checkout buttons”. Horizon: Theme settings → Cart → turn off accelerated checkout buttons, and remove the Accelerated checkout block from the product page.
Optional: add your own checkout address, like checkout.yourbrand.com, in your store’s Checkout page. Apple Pay and Google Pay need it (how).
To pause, open your store’s Settings in Payd. Buyers go straight back to Shopify checkout; turn the dynamic checkout buttons back on if you turned them off.
