Step 3: Install the checkout line

Paste one line into a Custom Liquid section in your theme’s footer. It stays off for buyers until you go live.

One line in your theme sends the Check out button to Payd. The footer is on every page, so the cart page and cart drawer are covered. Copy your store’s line from the setup page; it looks like this:

Custom Liquid · Footer
<script src="https://usepayd.com/snippet/checkout.js?store=…" defer></script>
  1. In Shopify admin, open Online Store → Themes and click Customize on your live theme. (Payd’s setup page has a button that opens your theme editor directly.)

    Open Online Store → Themes
  2. In the left panel, under Footer, click Add section → Custom Liquid.

  3. Paste the line into the Liquid box and click Save. On Dawn, set Top padding and Bottom padding to 0 so no blank band appears.

  4. Back in Payd, click Check installation.

Try it before buyers do

Once installed, Preview on your store turns Payd on in your browser only, for 3 days. Add something to the cart and click checkout to land on your Payd checkout. Open your store with ?payd_preview=0 to switch preview off.

Older theme without Custom Liquid

In Shopify admin, open Online Store → Themes → ⋯ → Edit code, open layout/theme.liquid, paste the same line right before </body> and save.

Cart app with its own checkout button

Payd picks up your theme’s Check out buttons and links to /checkout. If a cart app’s button still opens Shopify checkout in preview, add data-payd-checkout to that button.

Password-protected store? Payd can’t open it to check. See password-protected stores.
