Shopify’s terms

What Shopify’s terms say about outside checkouts like Payd, and what that means for your store.

Shopify’s merchant terms ask merchants to use Shopify Checkout for online-store sales. Shopify’s API terms (opens in a new tab) (updated October 7, 2026) forbid alternative checkouts that record orders through the API without Shopify’s written permission. Payd works that way.

So Shopify can restrict the app you create, or your store, and we can’t promise it won’t. Payd isn’t approved by or affiliated with Shopify. Using an outside checkout is your decision; Payd’s Terms, which you agree to before you go live, say the same.

If you change your mind, pause Payd: buyers are on Shopify checkout again right away, and your orders stay in Shopify.
