Step 2: Connect Whop
Create one Whop API key with the Admin role plus the Developer and partner permissions, and paste it. Payd sets up the rest and becomes your Whop business’s partner.
Payments go to your own Whop business. One API key lets Payd create the hidden checkout product and the payment webhook, so every payment lands in Shopify as an order.
No Whop account yet? Use the Create one link in Payd’s Connect Whop step, then come back here.
Open your Whop dashboard. If you have more than one business, pick the right one in the switcher.
Open Whop dashboardOpen Developer → Company API keys → Create API key.
Name it Payd and choose the Admin role.
Then add two permissions the Admin role doesn’t include: manage webhooks (
developer:manage_webhook) and accept referral requests (partner:referral_request:accept). Both are required. Only a key the business owner created can accept, and Payd names anything missing (more).Leave the IP allowlist empty and set no expiry. Create the key and copy it: Whop shows it only once.
In Payd, paste the key and click Connect Whop. Payd checks every permission it needs and names any that are missing.
Payd as your Whop partner
Payd only works through Whop’s partner program: connecting makes Payd your Whop business’s partner, and Whop pays Payd a share of the fees it already charges you. Your Whop fees and prices don’t change. A store can go live once Whop shows Payd as its business’s partner.
- Payd accepts its partner request for your business with your key. That needs
partner:referral_request:accepton a key the business owner created. - If Payd can’t accept it, accept Payd’s request in your Whop business settings (it can also show under Messages → Requests), then click Check again in step 2.
- A business that signed up through Payd’s link (the Create one link in the Connect Whop step) is accepted automatically.
- A business that already has another Whop partner can’t use Payd. Create a new Whop business through Payd’s link instead.
- If step 2 says Connect a Whop business made through Payd’s link, Payd can only work with businesses created through its link for now. Create a new business with Create a Whop business (one Whop account can own several), create an API key for it, and reconnect with that key.
Get approved for card payments
Whop approves your business for card payments with your ID and bank details: in Whop, open Balances → Set up Whop Payments. You can keep setting up meanwhile; Go live unlocks once Whop turns card payments on.
Using a custom permission set instead
Pick these instead of the Admin role. The first row is required; each other row turns on one feature.
